Everything You Need To Know About A Flat HDMI Cable

By Cicero Julius

It is undeniable that wires can look messy at times. But, the fact that a flat HDMI cable has been created, this kind of issue is not something that people should be so alarmed about. Even though such cable makes things easier, questions regarding its quality, competitions and more always arise. With this, let's take a closer glimpse about this flat High-Definition Multimedia Interface cable.

More than 60% of people ask about cost. The Flat HDMI does cost a few dollars more, but the extra cost is not something one can cry about. At most, it should around $5 more and its benefits definitely overshadow the additional cost. An average 3-foot long Flat HDMI would set you back around $30 while a round one is around $25 to $26.

The second most common question that people often ask is about the quality. Since it is flat and has less wiring inside, is there a trade off when it comes to quality? Contrary to popular belief, there is no difference. A flat cable uses the same kind of quality than the regular ones. They look sleeker because the wires are designed and arranged to be flat. Its flatness gives it an illusion of having fewer wires inside. Does the thin wire affect the transmitting power? There is no difference when it comes to transmitting power. Even if one compares the regular HDMI cables with the thin ones, there is no difference.

There are two kinds of HDMI cables. The first one is copper plated, which is a lot cheaper. However, it can carry less data. The second one is the Gold plated HDMI cable. Although these are a lot more expensive compared to the copper-plated ones, this kind of cable can carry more data and is less susceptible to transmission delay. If you only need a 3-foot cable, there is no difference. The difference will only be noticeable if you need a very long cable. Both the thin and the round HDMI cable have gold and copper plated versions.

The materials used in these two HDMI cables are just the same. They both are manufactured with the same industry-standard plastic and wiring that's made of rubber. The only difference is that the flat cable is more durable as objects like wheels just slides over it. Its thinness saves itself from the risks of damage like what round HDMI cable undergoes. The latter gets easily trapped and peeled off.

Some of the more expensive flat HDMI cords have UL/CL2 certifications, which makes it easy for in-wall installations compared to the regular ones. If a person purchases a UL/CL2 certified flat cable, wall installations will definitely be a lot easier. One can even hide the wire under thick wallpaper or paint.

A flat HDMI cable certainly has great features that people can look forward to. Compared to the regular HDMI cord, there's no question that it's more durable and user friendly as it can be easily installed by individuals. It's even way cheaper than the future wireless HDMI.
