Up Close and Personal with the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet

By Sally Louise Alford

When the iPad first came out, a lot of people said, "Whatever, I have a laptop for that." However, the real purpose of the iPad started to become clearer. The iPad became hot, gross sales and net profits soared and all of a sudden all of the major computer and cellular companies wanted to get in on the action. Tablets became the latest must-have. Of course, Dell is trying to get its piece of the pie. The product offering Dell is placing its hopes on is a tablet called Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet. We'll assess this Tablet in this article and offer you the answers you need for you to decide if it's a good get or not.

It's a good device for movies with a similar system to watch movies for ipad. Unfortunately, the plainest minus for this product is the company itself -- Dell. Dell isn't recognized for the quality of the products it makes. Dell also has a dubious history when it comes to customer service. After your product warranty expires, you are going to be billed for customer service phone calls to the company - at least that is what many Dell customers claim. You'll discover that maybe the price of this gadget is cheaper than most, you have got to factor in the long range cost of the company you're dealing with.

The tablet has the Android OS (this version is affectionately named Froyo), which means that it should permit you to multitask between various applications somewhat easily. You can listen to Mp3s, keep your GPS data up-to-date, and be given notice of various things through the system's notification service without being pressured to keep any specific application open and running. There are no worries about being unreachable with this tablet; communications via Gmail and other email setups are well-supported.

One of the great things about this tablet that was not a component of the first iPad design is video chat. Video chat is incorporated with this Dell tablet by means of Qik software and a camera panel that faces front. The only catch is that the only people you can chat with are those who have the same Dell Streak tablet or a compatible device. So there is no a universal video chat feature available. Another perk is that the Dell Streak 7 table comes built in with Blockbuster's On Demand service. We're not so sure that this is a terrific feature, after all, because of the problems Blockbuster has been having lately.

As yet, there aren't many reviews about this specific product though several people are curious to know what the purpose of this product might really be. The tablet's functionality is severely limited through its lack of capability to interact with devices that aren't compatible with it. However, if you suppose you're missing out and would like to determine whether tablets are truly the thing for you, the Dell Streak 7 is an affordable way for you to figure it out. Before you send your money off, however, be careful and ensure that you understand what you're spending your money on.
