A Review of the Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet

By Constance Archambault

The first iPad was met with skepticism; people believed that their laptops covered the same bases more than adequately. Very quickly, however, the potentials of the iPad became more obvious. They became hot, sales and profits surged and all of a sudden all of the leading computer and cellular companies wanted to get in on the action. Tablets started appearing everywhere. Of course, Dell is targeting to get a piece of the pie. The Dell Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet is the result of that concern. Whether this device makes the grade and is worth buying is what we are going to try to answer in this article.

One remarkable feature is movies are clearer to watch than ipad movies. The first downside to the Streak 7 tablet is its manufacturer. Dell isn't actually noted for producing good and reliable products. Dell in addition has a shady track record when it comes to customer service. After the warranty on your product runs out, you are going to be billed for customer service calls to Dell - at least that is what a lot of customers have reported. And so, while this gadget is in all likelihood going to be one of the more easily affordable tablets on the market, you have to pause to think about who you will be paying that money to.

Multitasking is facilitate by the tablet's OS, an Android OS version dubbed "Froyo." The system's notification service keeps you updated even if all programs aren't open and running, and at the same time, you will be able to keep your GPS data and listen to MP3s. There are no worries about being unreachable with the Dell Streak 7 tablet; communications via Gmail and other email setups are possible.

Video chat was not part of the initial iPad offering, and it's terrific that it is with this Dell tablet. Video chat is incorporated with the Dell Streak 7 tablet through Qik software and a camera panel which is front facing. The only catch is that the only ones you can chat with are people who have a Streak tablet or a compatible device. Thus, video chatting with those using other platforms is not guaranteed. Another perk is that the Streak 7 tablet features Blockbuster's On Demand service. We're not so certain that this is a strong feature, after all, because of the problems Blockbuster is having in the past several months.

Reviews at this point are few, but it does appear that people are leery as to the reasons why this product was introduced. This Dell tablet's real use is limited by its not being universal and its consequent inability to communicate with incompatible devices. Still, a strong desire for a tablet computer coupled with a small budget could make the Dell Streak 7 a perfect way to familiarize yourself with the technology. Just make sure you understand what you are buying before you actually give your money to Dell.
