Start asking anyone about implementation of private schools uniforms on public campuses and one will surely be having different opinions and types if emotions from the people affected by it. Indeed, there still has a continuing debate over such issue, causing the majority to wonder whether such issue will ever end.
One of the greatest advantage on wearing one, would be the sense of equality among students. Teenagers do have their own personal issues of inferiority and superiority among their fellow students. By having a uniform, this will actually reduce the social and economic barrier between them.
That includes economic differences, school violence, gang identification, self expression, safety and costs. Arguments for such topic do revolve on such issues, those that are in favor in implementing it are saying wearing it reduces the feeling of either inferiority and superiority among student, and increases the safety on their students.
More so, those that are opposed to the idea insists that wearing one will loose their student's sense of individuality and violates their right to express their own characteristic and persona. In addition to that, some think of it as an additional expense to parent who opted for a free education.
One other problem concerning such idea is the additional cost it gives to parents. A school uniform is usually costly, which could be a huge baggage to one's existing expenses. These parents opted for a free education to be able to save, and this plan would somehow ruin that purpose.
There are already a number of research conducted for this topic. Some of it gave favorable results such as improvement of class attendance and suspension rates when students began wearing one. While other are saying that there are no significant differences.
Whether or not one agrees on adapting private schools uniforms tradition to their campus, one should not forget that it is not about what their students are wearing, but on the quality of education the professors are giving to them and the amount of disciplinary measures implemented on the campus that are the most important.
