Gossip Star finally admits to gastric bypass

Star Jones Reynolds is finally admitting to having gastric bypass surgery - nearly four years after the fact. In the September issue of Glamour, Jones Reynolds says she chose only to admit she'd undergone a "medical intervention" because, says says, "First, I didn't know if the surgery would work. I had spent my entire adult life telling everyone I was fine with the way I looked. I never thought I'd have to explain it. But the complete truth is, I was scared of what people might think of me." In a first-person essay begun on August 19, 2003, Jones Reynolds writes, "I was so angry. How had I allowed myself to get to 307 pounds? Whenever I felt lonely, a Double Whopper with cheese became my friend. If I felt sad, six strips of bacon made me feel better... Even though I claimed to be just fine with my weight, I saw how other women [colleagues] were treated like the girlfriend, while I was treated like the good friend. To compensate for my insecurities, I spoke louder and ate more." Since the surgery, Jones Reynolds says she is working on having a positive self-image. "Every day I am learning to let go of my insecurities and acknowledge that I don't have all the answers, which is okay."

Gossip TSL canceled

The Simple Life has officially been canceled, according to a source at the E! network. Overexposure is reportedly to blame for the end of Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie's "reality" show. "We felt like the real life drama of their lives overshadowed anything happening on the show," says the insider. "Viewers would see Paris all day long on the news about her going to jail, so they didn't care about seeing her camping with kids. It just was too played out." Richie also became difficult to work with, adds the source: "Paris carried the show. She was the one willing to do anything. Nicole was the diva."

Gossip Depp to resume Hunter S. Thompson role

Seven years after the project was announced, Johnny Depp may soon begin production on Hunter S. Thompson's autobiographical novel The Rum Diary. Depp would resume his Fear and Loathing role in the flick, loosely based on gonzo author Thompson's experiences working as a freelance journalist in Puerto Rico in the late 1950s. The Oscar-winning producer of The Departed has acquired the rights to the film, and a rep for his production company said it was hoped production will begin shortly after principle photography is completed on Depp's next film, Shantaram.

Steve Martin wed Anne Stringfield, a 35-year-old former writer for the New Yorker, in front of 75 guests at his LA home yesterday. SNL creator Lorne Michaels served as best man at the event, for which Martin was sporting an Inspector Clouseau moustache (for the upcoming sequel to the Pink Panther remake). The guests, who included Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy and Carl Reiner, were told only that they were invited to Martin's house for a "party" - the wedding was a complete surprise.

Gossip Usher's wedding canceled

The wedding of Usher and his pregnant fiance, Tameka Foster, which was set to take place today in the Hamptons, has been abruptly canceled. The news was released in a statement by Usher's rep that read, "It was announced today that the wedding ceremony for Usher Raymond IV and Tameka Foster was canceled. No additional information will be given regarding the circumstances of the cancellation, but we hope the privacy of this matter will be respected." The couple became engaged earlier this year, and announced in January that they are expecting their first child together. Foster has three children from a previous marriage.

Gossip Paris in rehearsals for singing horror flick

Producers are expected to announce the casting of Paris Hilton in Repo! The Genetic Opera, rock opera/horror film that will begin shooting in September. The futuristic flick, which is completely sung, chronicles an organ failure epidemic in 2056 that forces people to perfect genetically perfect organs from a biotech company. "The idea is that everybody is buying up organs, and they cannot afford to pay for these organs," the film's director told MTV. "Thus, legalized organ repo-men come into the picture. Murder becomes sanctioned by law. So, if you buy a heart and can't afford it, someone can burst through the door and take your heart out...and they don't get in trouble for it." I'm not sure what makes this flick a horror - the plot or the fact that Paris Hilton has a singing role. On Tuesday night, the heiress did not reveal specifics but did admit to being in rehearsals for a "very cool and unique project." "We're just in the studio," she said. "We're doing dance and singing."

Gossip Richie gets four days in jail

Nicole Richie appeared in court in Glendale, California, this morning to face charges of DUI stemming from her December 2006 arrest. The diminutive star, wearing a loose-fitting black dress, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four days in jail. She also agreed to serve three years probation, must enroll in an alcohol education program and was fined $2.048. "Someone could've gotten killed," the court commissioner scolded during the hearing. "You need to understand that driving under the influence is extremely dangerous." The Simple Life star has been given the option of serving her sentence in a paid city jail, which is seen as less rigid than a county facility. Her jail time must be completed before September 28.

Gossip Paris lists house on the market

Well...her neighbors must be happy. Paris Hilton has listed her Hollywood Hills home on the market for $4.25 million. Last month, the media frenzy surrounding Hilton's release and subsequent return to jail uncovered obvious privacy issues for the heiress. According to her aunt and informal spokesperson, Hilton is looking to buy a larger home in a gated community or one with a long gated driveway. The socialite bought the 3,000 square foot house for $2.9 million in 2004. Hilton's aunt said that although her niece does feel sympathy her neighbors and how her presence has affected them, they were not a factor in her decision to sell. The heiress is currently staying in a rental in Malibu.

Gossip Tom Cruise extortion suspect arrested

FBI arrested a 47-year-old man earlier this week for his alleged role in attempting to extort Tom Cruise. David Hans Schmidt is being held on $100,000 bail for attempting to sell the actor stolen private photos from his wedding to Katie Holmes last November. Schmidt was asking for more than $1 million for the pics. Cruise's reps immediately contacted the FBI when they were approached about the photos earlier this year. Schmidt has a history of contacting celebs, including Paris Hilton, Colin Farrell and Jamie Foxx, in the hopes of selling private photos or video back to them after they have been stolen.

Gossip Julia to receive film honors

Julia Roberts will receive the 22nd annual American Cinematheque award this fall. The non-profit organization unanimously chose the Pretty Woman to receive the award, which has previously been granted to Nicole Kidman, George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, Tom Cruise and Martin Scorsese. "Julia Roberts is a true movie star who has delighted audiences and critics in so many pictures," a rep for the cinema-arts group said. The award will be presented on October 12 in Beverly Hills.

Gossip Tom to star in spy thriller?

Columbia Pictures is reportedly developing a spy thriller possibly for Tom Cruise. According to Variety, Hotel Rwanda director Terry George is in talks for the film, based on a script about CIA officer Edwin A. Salt, who was accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. Cruise's next project to hit theaters is Robert Redford's Lions for Lambs, due out this fall, and he is currently in early production on the controversial Valkyrie.

Gwen Stefani is suing the retail chain Forever 21 for trademark infringement. In papers filed in LA Federal Court, reps for the singer's Harajuku Lovers line claim Forever 21 is marketing, promoting and selling products featuring a design "virtually indistinguishable" from Harajuku's heart/box logo. The clothing chain is alleged to have "changed a couple of words in the Heart/Box Trademark, which are inconspicuous and likely to go unnoticed by a consumer." Gossip Nothing's changed

Paris Hilton isn't holding to her word about turning her life around and using her fame for good. In her post-prison interview, the heiress said she had plans to do charity work for breast cancer or MS and to open a "Paris Hilton playhouse" for sick children, but since her release she seems to only be up to her old tricks: shopping, dating, and living the good life. Hilton told E! Online this week, "I'm already working on my new record" and that she has been collaborating "for a few weeks" with producer Scott Storch. Gossip Did Paris get special treatment?

The LA County Sheriff's Department is investigating charges that Paris Hilton received special treatment during her imprisonment last month. The department hopes to determine whether the heiress had access to a cell phone while other inmates had to wait in line for payphones, whether she was given a new uniform instead a used one, and whether her mail was delivered by a captain rather than inmate trusties. The investigation was prompted by accusations from deputies, whose claims differ from the department's information.

Discovery Communications has partnered up with Leonardo Dicaprio to help them launch their Planet Green channel. Dicaprio will executive produce a 13-part series called Eco-Town, which will chronicle the "green" rebuilding of a small town in Greensburg, Kansas that was devastated by a tornado in May. Greensburg will be rebuilt as a "sustainable model of eco-living and one that will save it from future environmental catastrophe." Dicaprio will also serve on the board of advisers for Planet Green, which is set to launch in 2008.

Gossip Anne Heche's ugly divorce battle

The bitter divorce between Anne Heche and Coley Laffoon continues to worsen, with furniture now at the center of the battle. In papers filed in LA Superior Court, Laffoon alleges that Heche took a number of items from the couple's former home while he was away, including the master bed and yoga-room rugs, and that he "discovered that [Heche] had gone into my closet and ripped the buttons off of 19 of my shirts and removed some of my pants." The former videographer has requested that the court order Heche to return the property and prohibit her from removing anything else. Heche denies the claims, insisting the items she took were hers before they were married. "All of the furniture, furnishings, artwork, etc. that was acquired during marriage and paid for with funds earned during the marriage remains," the actress says in court documents.

The socialite is back from Hawaii to prepare for her Fourth of July party in Malibu, but tried to use her quick vacation to show the public that she could relax without wild parties. Fellow vacationers in Maui, however, tell a different tale. "Paris tried to check into the Four Seasons first, but they turned her down," said a hotel guest. "She then tried to stay at the Fairmont Kea Lani, but they turned her down as well. She finally got a place at the Grand Wailea Resort, but that's because it was a Hilton. We all thought it was hilarious that the Hilton hotel was her third choice." Another source said, "The paparazzi told us that Paris calls them herself," and said a photog told him, "'We love her. She lets us know where she's going to be so we can take as many pictures as we want.'" At night, the heiress reportedly couldn't resist the draw of a local nightclub. "She slipped out of the hotel and went to the club at the Hyatt a couple of times," said another source. "She made friends with a couple of local guys and made out with them there. I guess she didn't want pictures of herself doing that... It's amazing. She hasn't changed at all." Whether or not any of this is true, it seems obvious that Hilton calls the paparazzi to let them know where she'll be. Who takes a vacation and invites a pile of stinky cameramen? Only Paris.

Gossip Kate Moss ousted from lingerie campaign

Kate Moss's career comeback may have finally passed its peak. After scoring a handful of major campaigns following her exit from rehab for cocaine use, Moss is about to be booted from her post at Agent Provocateur. This week, the lingerie company's creative director announced that she wouldn't be renewing Moss's top-dollar contract, and that she had already chosen a fresh face to represent the high-end brand. Fashion circles are buzzing with the rumor that the falling out less to do with Moss's appeal and more with the affair the lingerie exec had with Moss's friend's husband, Clash bassist Paul Simonon.

Gossip Tommy Lee hooks up with aged rocker's daughter

New couple alert: Tommy Lee and Kimberley Stewart have reportedly hooked up. The Motley Crue rocker met Stewart, daughter of Rod Stewart, several months ago in London and the two are now an item. At last week's Pink Taco restaurant launch in LA, Stewart was seen running out to Lee when he was denied entry after the party was shut down by the fire department. "They threw their arms around each other and she started saying, 'Baby, baby' before kissing and leaving," said a witness.

Gossip Cameron denies adultery claims

Cameron Diaz denies allegations being made by lawyers for Criss Angel's wife that she broke up the magician's marriage. "When Cameron met Criss Angel in May of this year, he had been separated from his wife for over a year and she had already filed a petition to divorce him in 2006," Diaz's rep said in a statement. "Cameron and Criss went on only four dates over a month ago and have no current relationship. These are meaningless, attention-seeking attempts to unfairly and unnecessarily exploit Cameron's celebrity by trying to involve her in matters she has nothing to do with." Why Diaz even went on four dates with this loser is beyond me.

Gossip Jessica's bad film delayed

Things aren't looking good for Jessica Simpson's Blonde Ambition movie. Sources says the release date has been pushed by twice - by her manager and dad Joe Simpson! - because...well, basically, it sucks. "First, the release date was set for August 3, and then it was delayed until the last week of August," says a source. "Papa Joe then intervened and said he wasn't comfortable with the level of competition from other films that month." According to another insider, "Jessica was not very focused on set and flubbed her lines often. She always had her dog around, was on the phone with [then] boyfriend John Mayer or was sitting in a warmed-up SUV." The movie is reportedly not even finished yet, and currently has no official release date.
