Amy Adams signed to star in a Scientology:
Philip Seymour Hoffman |
Three times Oscar and three times Golden Globe award nominee and numerous other award winner Amy Lou Adams, 36, has recently signed on for Paul Thomas Anderson's untitled film project that is sometimes referred to as The Master. Adam will play the wife Philip Seymour Hoffman as the protagonist. The two also played in "Doubt" for which she won Oscar and Golden Globe nomination.
In the cast there are also "Friday Night Lights" star Jesse Plemmons as Hoffman's son, David Warshofsky (who played H.M. Tilford in Anderson's There Will Be Blood), Laura Dern and Lena Endre (the magazine editor in the original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo)_ Deadline says.
In the film Hoffman is a Navy veteran who begins a religion in the 1950's -- just like Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard and therefore the project has been controversial as it's said to be inspired by him. Joaquin Phoenix will play Freddie, Hoffman's protege, "the faith leader's right-hand man" who begins to question the religion and his mentor as the movement grows.
According to Deadline, Hoffman is "a man who returns from witnessing the horrors of WWII, and in an attempt to find himself, he forms a belief system that catches on in the 1950s."
This Italian born American actress and singer started her career on stage in dinner theatres before making her screen debut in 1999 and since then she stared in more than 30 movies and several TV shows. Recently she has completed filming 'On the Road' and set to play in the 'Superman' reboot and is filming Disney's "The Muppets."
